Jan Skramlik

Jan Skramlik
July 1st, 1860 - September 6th, 1936
Born in 1860 in Prague, Skramlik was a master of painted interiors. In the years 1876-1878 he studied at the Prague Academy of Painting. He then moved to Munich for 8 years, where he studied at the Academy. Around 1886 he went to Paris, where he met Václav Brožík. Skramlík became Brožík’s pupil at the Prague Academy of Fine Art. A contemporary of Joža Uprka, Skramlik also focused on figuration and followed the academic style. His artwork was rich in detail and expressive and like Uprka drew inspiration from his environment with their own distinctive styles.
