Antos Frolka was born in Kněždub, South Moravia on June 13th, 1877. Born into poverty, he pursued autodidactic practices as well as seeking instruction from his mentor, Joža Uprka. Additionally, he received some education from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and the academy in Munich. In 1907, he joined the Association of Moravian Artists (SVUM) of which Joža Uprka and many other of his Czech artist contemporaries were members.
An undeniable follower of Uprka, Frolka’s artwork is a tribute to everyday Moravian life. His rich palette and solid figuration allow for viewers to sink into life embellished with traditional costume and occurrences. His style imitates and honors Uprka’s mastery of the Moravian subject matter.
