January 3rd, 1914 - September 27th, 1977
Zdislava Rosalina Augusta Braunerová was born in 1858 in Prague. She widely went by Zdenka Braunerová and was a multi-talented landscape painter, illustrator and graphic artist. After learning under Amálie Mánesová, Braunerová attended Académie Colarossi in Paris and pulled much inspiration from her time there. Later in her life she split her time between Roztoky and Prague and painted many renditions of the captivating landscapes in these regions. Like Joža Uprka, she deeply loved her Moravian background and used it as a major source of artistic inspiration.
She was the first female member of the Mánes Union of Fine Arts, and a patron of numerous other Czech artists. An avid philanthropist, many younger Czech artists, such as František Bílek, Jan Zrzavý, as well as Joža Uprka, received financial support from her in her later years. She was a contemporary to Uprka and not only acted as his supporter, but also worked as his publicist and contributed to his widespread fame.
